There’s something so special about extended family sessions — the laughter, the stories, the generations all in one place. This beautiful family met me at Verrado Founder’s Park in Buckeye, AZ, and it turned out to be the perfect backdrop for a warm, joy-filled afternoon together.
If you’ve ever been to Verrado, you know the charm: tree-lined paths, glowing light, and that classic small-town feel mixed with Arizona beauty. Founder’s Park gave us plenty of space to create those relaxed, candid moments that make extended family photography so meaningful.
We started with classic group portraits — grandparents surrounded by their children and grandchildren — and then moved into smaller family groupings. With extended sessions, I always make sure everyone gets their moment: sibling photos, couples, grandkids together, and each individual family unit. It’s the perfect time to update all the photos in one go, especially when everyone is already together in the West Valley.
What made this session so fun was how naturally this family interacted. Between the playful teasing, the little kids running around, and the heartfelt moments tucked in between poses, it was clear how close-knit they are. Founder’s Park has this gorgeous, soft light in the late afternoon, and it created a beautiful glow behind the trees — a dream for any Phoenix family photographer!
Extended family sessions like this are one of my favorites to photograph because they truly capture legacy — the roots and branches of a family all together in one frame.
