Pregnancy is such a short season, and a maternity session is about creating something that feels beautiful, confident, and completely different from everyday photographs. This recent studio maternity session was the perfect example of how much variety we can create in one portrait experience. As a Phoenix maternity photographer, I love creating maternity portraits that feel timeless, feminine, and elevated while still keeping the focus on the expecting mom. A Luxury Maternity Photography Experience
For this session, we created several completely different looks while staying in the studio.
The rich red maternity gown against the warm brown backdrop created a classic, romantic look with beautiful depth and movement. We also photographed a darker, more dramatic series using directional lighting and black wardrobe pieces for an editorial feel.
For the final look, a fitted neutral gown with subtle sparkle gave us something softer and elegant while still highlighting her pregnancy beautifully.
This variety is one of my favorite parts of studio maternity photography. Your final gallery doesn’t have to look like the same photograph repeated over and over. We can create different lighting, wardrobe, poses, and moods throughout your session so that your finished collection feels complete.
When Should You Schedule Maternity Photos?
I typically recommend scheduling maternity portraits when your belly is beautifully defined but you’re still comfortable enough to move and pose. For many moms, that falls somewhere around 28–34 weeks, although every pregnancy is different.
I recommend booking your maternity photographer earlier in your pregnancy so we have plenty of time to plan your session, discuss wardrobe, and reserve the best date for you.
